NEW BRITAIN GENERAL HOSPITAL PHYSICIAN RECEIVE TEACHING AWARDS FROM UCONN (New Britain, CT – August 22, 2006) Five New Britain General Hospital physicians were named “outstanding teachers” by hospital physician residents and physician assistant residents.
General surgery physician residents from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine gave Akella Sarma, MD, the Golden Scalpel Award for teaching. Dr. Sarma was also named an “outstanding teacher” by residents in the hospital’s Physician Assistant Surgical Residency Program. Dr. Sarma is associate chief of Surgery at the hospital.
UConn surgery residents named as outstanding teachers Robert Carangelo, MD, an associate attending physician in Orthopedics, and Raphael Cooper, a senior attending physician in Urology.
UConn residents in primary care internal medicine named Charles Graeber, MD, senior attending physician in Nephrology, teacher of the year. Robert Malkin, MD, a senior attending physician in Cardiology, received the community physician award.
