First California Hospital to Partner with ECDS Parkview Community Hospital in Riverside, CA, is about to advance the technological state of its emergency department by installing a computerized electronic medical record program. This system, called EmpowER, was designed by Chicago-based IT vendor ECDS (Emergency Care Documentation Systems) to electronically capture all patient information and store it within that patient's chart.
The current presidential administration has made it clear that hospitals' adopting electronic charting systems is no longer a matter of if, but rather when. Thus, the handwritten patient chart is going by the wayside, and Parkview's emergency department is upgrading its technology to reflect this change. Using EmpowER, doctors and nurses can access patient information at any time rather than having to search for a paper chart. A patient's visit to the ED is electronically tracked, speeding up triage and registration and reducing the time patients spend in the waiting room. The system also provides risk management features in the form of automatic computer prompts, which remind doctors and nurses of drug allergies or potential drug-to-drug interactionsÑhelping to ensure that the maximum standard in patient safety is achieved.
Serving its community since 1958, Parkview Community Hospital, a 193-bed acute care facility, is one of a growing number of U.S. hospitals that are embracing technology to deliver more expedient patient care, and Parkview is paving the way for other California hospitals to follow suit. ECDS is proud of this new partnership and looks forward to helping Parkview Community Hospital to further pursue its commitment to its patients and community. |
